Overview
- Investigators traced the Hyundai i20 through multiple owners to Dr Umar from Pulwama, who is missing and is believed to have been driving the car when it exploded near the Red Fort.
- CCTV shows the vehicle parked near the site for roughly three hours and a masked man at the wheel before the blast; DNA samples from the suspect’s mother are being matched to remains.
- The case follows the bust of a Faridabad-based ‘white-collar’ module with alleged JeM and AGH links, where about 2,900 kg of explosive and inflammable material and IED components were seized.
- Preliminary forensics indicate ammonium nitrate, fuel oil and detonators may have powered the device, with investigators assessing whether it was a suicide attack or an accidental or panic-triggered detonation.
- Delhi Police registered a UAPA and Explosives Act case, security has been tightened across major hubs, and arrests and detentions have been made in J&K and Haryana, including a man who supplied the car.
