NIA Leads Probe After 150 Kg Ammonium Nitrate Seized on Rajasthan Highway

Federal investigators are tracing the consignment's source to determine its intended use after the New Year's Eve seizure in Tonk.

Overview

  • An NIA team reached Tonk on Thursday to question two suspects after police seized ammonium nitrate concealed in urea sacks during a NH‑52 checkpoint operation.
  • The District Special Team intercepted a Maruti Ciaz within Baroni police station limits and recovered about 150 kg of ammonium nitrate, 200 explosive cartridges and roughly 1,100 metres of fuse wire.
  • The arrested men, identified as Surendra Patwa and Surendra Mochi from Bundi district, are being examined for supply routes, prior consignments and intended recipients.
  • The Intelligence Bureau and the Anti-Terrorism Squad have joined the inquiry, and authorities have placed the district on heightened alert as teams map the supply chain.
  • Investigators are exploring whether the materials were bound for illegal mining in the Aravalli/Tonk hills, while keeping other illicit-use possibilities under review.
