NIA Files Charge Sheet Naming Three in Amritsar Temple Grenade Attack

Investigators cite foreign handlers, tracing UPI and MTSS fund flows.

  • The filing before the special NIA court in Mohali on Friday concerns the March 15 blast at Thakurdwara Sanatan Temple in Amritsar.
  • The accused are Vishal Gill, Bhagwant Singh, and Diwan Singh; Gill is alleged to be one of two bike-borne attackers, with co-accused Gursidak Singh killed in a March 17 police encounter.
  • The charge sheet alleges Bhagwant Singh provided shelter, concealed grenades, and arranged motorcycles for reconnaissance, while Diwan Singh harboured the co-accused and destroyed evidence.
  • Another accused, Sharanjeet Kumar, was arrested in Gaya on September 5, with probes continuing into him and foreign-based absconder Badalpreet Singh, including a grenade consignment traced to Batala–Gurdaspur.
  • The NIA says funds moved from overseas handlers via UPI and MTSS, alleges support from operatives in Europe, the US and Canada, and reports recovering three grenades and a .30-bore pistol on September 11 based on disclosures.
