Overview
- NIA Special Court convicts Syed Ikramuddin (alias Syed Naveed), Syed Asif and Mohammed Atif to seven years in rigorous imprisonment and fines of ₹36,000 each after their guilty pleas.
- The accused were charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Karnataka Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for their roles in the 2020 attacks on the KG Halli and DJ Halli police stations.
- Prosecutors said the convictions affirm the 2022 ban on the Popular Front of India following the NIA’s findings of the group’s involvement in orchestrating the violence.
- Of the 199 people named in the case, the NIA has arrested 187, filed charges against 138, recorded four surrenders and noted one death while proceedings continue for the remaining accused.
