NIA Court Extends Custody by 45 Days in Pahalgam Massacre Probe

The special judge granted extra time based on prosecutors' claim that key lab reports remain outstanding.

Overview

  • Special NIA judge Sandeep Gandotra approved a 45-day extension beyond the statutory 90 days to continue the investigation.
  • The accused are Bashir Ahmad Jothat of Baisaran and Parvaiz Ahmad of Batkote, arrested on June 22 and held at Amphalla Jail in Jammu.
  • Prosecutors say DNA profiling of blankets, shawls and bedsheets and other forensic reports from CFSL Chandigarh and NFSU Gandhinagar are awaited.
  • Investigators are examining mobile data linked to Pakistani numbers and recoveries from a July 28 encounter in which three suspects were killed.
  • The NIA alleges the two sheltered Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives in a Hill Park hut, a claim the defence contested while opposing the extension.
