NIA Conducts Raids at 18 Karnataka Sites in Suhas Shetty Murder Probe

The searches mark a critical phase in investigating suspected PFI involvement with foreign-funded support

Overview

  • On August 2, NIA teams executed simultaneous searches at 18 locations across Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts in connection with the May 1 killing of Bajrang Dal member Suhas Shetty.
  • Investigators seized 11 mobile phones, 13 SIM cards and eight memory cards along with key documents during the coordinated operations.
  • Officials are probing alleged ties between suspects and the banned Popular Front of India plus potential overseas financing for the attack.
  • Before the case was transferred to the NIA in June, Karnataka Police had arrested 12 individuals linked to Shetty’s murder.
  • The raids mark the next phase of the national security investigation after the Centre invoked UAPA provisions to take over the probe.
