Overview
- The chargesheet names Gajendra Madvi, Laxman Kunjam and Raghu Midiyami, all described as office-bearers of Moolwasi Bachao Manch.
- The case stems from a March 2023 seizure of Rs 6 lakh in Bijapur from Madvi and Kunjam, who were allegedly headed to deposit the cash across multiple bank accounts on CPI (Maoist) instructions.
- NIA findings state MBM acted as a CPI (Maoist) front and identify Midiyami, president of MBM’s Bastar division, as a key node for collecting, storing and distributing funds.
- Officials say the money was used to mobilise protests against new security camps and to obstruct state development work in Maoist-affected interiors.
- The probe began with Bijapur Police and was taken over by NIA in February 2024, further investigation is ongoing to map the wider network and all three accused are in custody.
