NIA Chargesheets 11 Over 4,000-Kg Explosives Loot in Odisha

Investigators say the cache was stolen for planned attacks on security forces, and the case now moves to a special court as the probe continues.

Overview

  • The federal agency filed the charge sheet on December 11, naming 11 accused in the May 27 theft during transit in Sundargarh/Rourkela district.
  • Prosecutors invoked the UAPA, BNSS, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act after finding an alleged conspiracy to carry out terror acts.
  • The consignment of roughly 200 packets, each of 20 kg, was seized when 10–15 armed CPI (Maoist) cadres intercepted a vehicle and abducted the driver.
  • The NIA assumed the investigation from local police in June and alleges the explosives were intended for use against government and security personnel.
  • Joint combing operations on the Gandhamardhan Hill range recovered explosives, Maoist uniforms and other material, according to the agency.
