Overview

  • The NIA arrested Rizwan Ali—known as Abu Salma and Mola—from Lucknow, charging him under a non-bailable warrant and remanding him in custody until July 18.
  • Investigators say Ali conducted hideout reconnaissance, led firearms training sessions and instructed members in IED fabrication for anti-India operations.
  • His arrest completes the chargesheet of all 11 accused in the Pune sleeper cell case under the UAPA, Explosive Substances Act, Arms Act and Indian Penal Code.
  • The module allegedly conspired to carry out large-scale terror attacks to destabilise the country and incite communal disharmony.
  • The NIA continues to pursue related ISIS and espionage networks across multiple states as part of a broader counterterrorism campaign.
