NIA Adds Two to Assam Independence Day IED Case, Taking Accused Count to Five
The agency says the Dibrugarh men financed a chargesheeted planter who confessed to placing four of the 11 devices.
Overview
- A supplementary chargesheet was filed on Friday before the NIA special court in Guwahati.
- The filing names Bhargab Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both from Dibrugarh, who were arrested by the NIA in June 2025.
- Investigators allege the pair provided terror funds to Jahnu Boruah, who is already chargesheeted in the case.
- Boruah confessed to planting four of the 11 IEDs seized in August 2024, which authorities tie to an ULFA(I) Independence Day boycott call by Paresh Baruah.
- The case began with a Dispur police FIR alleging a ULFA(I) conspiracy to wage war, was taken over by the NIA in September 2024, and earlier chargesheets were filed against three accused in June 2025.
