NHSBT Profiles 10 'Super-Donors' Who Have Given Blood, Plasma, Platelets and Stem Cells

The agency says this rare group has achieved every donation type since 2005 to inspire more people to give.

Overview

  • NHS Blood and Transplant confirmed only ten people have directly donated all blood components plus stem cells since the service was created in 2005.
  • The ten men, aged 31 to 64, are also on the Organ Donor Register, which officials said reflects exceptional commitment.
  • National and regional outlets published the full list of names, including Andrew Bruce of County Durham and Birmingham donor Andy Stowe.
  • Andrew Bruce began donating at 18, has O‑negative blood, and gave stem cells in 2010, while Andy Stowe donated stem cells in 2013 and now gives plasma every two weeks.
  • Anaesthetist Dr Christopher Black described seeing donations save lives at work, as NHSBT reported 964,000 donors in 2024 and urged more people to sign up.
