NHS to Offer Free Flu Nasal Spray for Two- and Three-Year-Olds at Pharmacies From 1 October

The move is designed to make vaccination easier for families to curb flu pressures on hospitals.

Overview

  • Around 4,000 community pharmacies across England will deliver the vaccine to eligible two- and three-year-olds for the first time.
  • Pharmacy vaccinations start on 1 October with both booked slots and walk-in availability at many high-street and supermarket locations.
  • Parents can book through the NHS App, the NHS website, GP practices or by calling 119, with a pharmacy finder to locate walk-in sites.
  • The expansion covers about 1.2 million toddlers and sits within the wider autumn vaccination programme for priority groups.
  • NHS leaders warn flu led to more than 300,000 hospital bed days last winter and urge early protection, with most children receiving a quick nasal spray and an injection available when required.
