• Applications are open until the end of August for the full-time resident nurse post on Fair Isle, which becomes vacant later this month.
• The package includes a salary of £41,608–£50,702, an annual £2,482 distant island allowance, up to £8,000 relocation support, a two-bedroom rental house and a car.
• The nurse will be the only medical professional on the island, responsible for clinical care across all age groups and personal support in the absence of social care services.
• Clinical backup will be provided by GPs and community nursing teams at Levenwick, while the Sumburgh Coastguard helicopter serves as the island’s ambulance.
• Fair Isle’s transport links remain weather dependent, but a £5.6 million contract awarded in June 2025 aims to introduce a new roll-on/roll-off ferry next year.
