NHS Opens Winter Flu and Targeted COVID Booster Bookings to All Eligible Groups

Health leaders urge swift uptake due to rising respiratory infections.

Overview

  • Autumn COVID-19 boosters are offered to adults 75 and over, older adult care‑home residents, and people aged six months to 74 with weakened immune systems.
  • The flu rollout widened on October 1 to include everyone 65 and over, under‑65s with long‑term conditions, care‑home residents, carers, household contacts of immunosuppressed people, and frontline health and social care workers, alongside groups opened in September such as pregnant women and children.
  • Appointments can be booked via the NHS App, GP practices, online or by calling 119, with more than 12 million invitations already sent and no need to wait for an invite.
  • Access has been expanded through GP surgeries, schools, community clinics and mobile sites, and for the first time many high‑street pharmacies are vaccinating two‑ and three‑year‑olds against flu.
  • Official guidance says to postpone the flu jab if unwell with a high temperature and avoid it after a serious allergic reaction to a previous dose or ingredient, with flu vaccines available through March 31, 2026 and COVID boosters through January 31, 2026.
