NHS Opens Bookings for Winter Flu and Covid Jabs Ahead of 1 October Rollout

Priority groups now book free vaccinations through multiple NHS channels.

Overview

  • Appointments can be reserved online or in the NHS App now, with most vaccinations delivered from 1 October and some flu jabs available since 1 September for defined groups.
  • Free flu vaccination eligibility includes people aged 65 and over, those with certain long‑term health conditions, pregnant people, care home residents, carers and household contacts of immunocompromised individuals, plus children aged two to three and school‑age cohorts.
  • Winter Covid‑19 vaccination is offered to people aged 75 and over, residents of older‑adult care homes and individuals aged six months to 74 with a weakened immune system.
  • Jabs are provided through GP surgeries, selected pharmacies, maternity services, school programmes and care homes, with additional walk‑in and local services available from 1 October.
  • UK guidance notes the flu vaccines used are inactivated and cannot cause flu, typical side effects are mild and short‑lived, some vaccines can be given together, and certain people may also qualify for pneumococcal or RSV protection.
