Overview
- Most adults and most children can use beclometasone inhalers, though some brands are only suitable for children aged five and over.
- NHS advice says to tell a doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to these medicines, cannot consume alcohol, have a history of TB, or are pregnant or trying to conceive.
- Beclometasone is a steroid preventer that reduces airway inflammation for asthma and can help control COPD, and it does not treat an acute asthma attack on its own.
- Certain inhalers combine beclometasone with formoterol and can be used as both a preventer and a reliever, with examples including Fostair, Luforbec and Bibecfo.
- Users should take their preventer inhaler every day, rinse the mouth or brush teeth after each use, and may be issued a steroid treatment or emergency card if on higher doses.
