Overview

• The NHRC Chairperson, Justice V. Ramasubramanian, and Members Justice Dr. Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Vijaya Bharathi Sayani will preside over sessions at the MCR HRD Institute, Jubilee Hills, starting at 10 am on July 28 and 29.
• 109 alleged human rights violations, from police abuse and welfare scheme denials to jail irregularities and trafficking, will be examined with complainants present.
• A July 29 meeting with senior state officers at 11 am will review the Telangana government’s response to past NHRC recommendations and stress the need for prompt redressal.
• Civil society organisations, NGOs and human rights defenders will convene at 2 pm on July 29 to highlight ongoing concerns, followed by a 3:30 pm media briefing on session outcomes.
• This Hyderabad camp sitting continues a nationwide NHRC initiative since 2007, following a similar session in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, last week to clear case backlogs.
