Overview

  • The NHRC has directed the Union Health Ministry to audit and verify credentials at all cardiac catheterisation laboratories across India.
  • It has instructed state governments to file FIRs for homicide, cheating and forgery against Mission Hospital management and involved officials.
  • Each of the seven victims’ families is to receive Rs 10 lakh in compensation recoverable from the hospital or the impostor doctor.
  • The commission exposed extensive misuse of the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana at the hospital, including overcharging patients while claiming government reimbursements.
  • Departmental inquiries have been ordered against the Damoh CMHO and police officers for dereliction of duty in verifying credentials and investigating the case.
