Overview
- NHPC is awaiting final clearance from the National Dam Safety Authority to begin commercial operations of three 250 MW units at the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project.
- The initial units were slated for June commissioning pending NDSA approval, representing the first 750 MW of hydropower capacity.
- Construction work resumed in October 2019 after an eight-year halt over local protests, and project costs rose from ₹6,285 crore to about ₹26,000 crore.
- The run-of-river facility is expected to generate around 7,421.59 MU annually and supply electricity to northeastern, northern and western states.
- The remaining five 250 MW units are scheduled for phased commissioning by May 2026 to reach the project’s full 2,000 MW capacity.
