Overview

• The NHL named Shero the 2025 Lester Patrick Trophy recipient on Sept. 19, with Commissioner Gary Bettman lauding his team-building and influence on the sport.
• Shero will be recognized during the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame induction celebration on Dec. 10 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
• As Pittsburgh’s general manager, he assembled the 2009 Stanley Cup champions before leading the Devils and later serving as a senior advisor to the Wild.
• His national-team résumé includes associate GM for the 2014 U.S. Olympic team, selecting 13 IIHF World Championship rosters, and co-founding the U.S. Men’s National Team Advisory Group in 2007.
• Shero died April 9, 2025, at age 62 in Chandler, Arizona, and his legacy continues through sons Chris and Kyle, who scout for the Blue Jackets and Flyers.
