Overview

  • NHIDCL’s August 15 notification extends full closure of the 52km NH-10 stretch from Coronation Bridge to Chitrey until 6 pm on August 17.
  • A major landslide at the 29th Mile that dumped the road into the Teesta River and fresh slides at Selfie Dara have blocked key sections and stalled reopening efforts.
  • Ongoing debris clearance and slope stabilization by NHIDCL crews have been hampered by continuous rainfall, rockfall and river erosion.
  • Motorists are rerouting via Lava and NH-717A detours, adding significant time and cost to journeys between Siliguri, Kalimpong and Sikkim.
  • Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has called for unified action among NHIDCL, IRCON, NHPC and BRO, while NHIDCL has appointed a PMC and is preparing a DPR for a Sevoke–Melli greenfield alignment.
