NHC Tracks Subtropical Storm Karen in the North Atlantic

Forecasters report no current threat to Mexico because of the storm’s distance.

  • The National Hurricane Center reports Karen has formed over the North Atlantic and is being monitored as a named cyclone.
  • The center was near 46.3°N, 31.2°W and moving northeast at about 20 km/h, according to the latest advisories.
  • Maximum sustained winds were around 75 km/h (45 mph) and the system has been characterized as subtropical.
  • Forecasts call for a transition to a post-tropical low between Friday night and early Saturday with no expected land impacts.
  • Mexico’s SMN and CONAGUA say the storm does not pose a danger to the country at this time.
