NHAI Ends Routine KYV for Car FASTags From Feb. 1 With Pre-Activation Checks

Issuer banks will validate vehicles against VAHAN before activation to reduce post-activation complaints.

Overview

  • The change takes effect on February 1, 2026 and applies to new FASTags for cars, jeeps and vans.
  • Existing car FASTags will not face routine KYV, with checks triggered only by complaints such as loose or duplicate tags or number mismatches.
  • Banks must complete VAHAN-based verification before activating a FASTag, ending the earlier practice of validating after activation.
  • Where VAHAN lacks records, banks must verify Registration Certificate details before activation and are fully accountable for accuracy.
  • FASTags bought online will be activated only after complete validation, while commercial vehicles remain under stricter verification rules.
