NHAI Ends Routine KYV for Car FASTags From Feb. 1

Banks must confirm vehicle records in the VAHAN database before activating tags to curb post-activation hassles.

Overview

  • Activation will be allowed only after issuer banks match vehicle data with the VAHAN database or verify the registration certificate when VAHAN records are absent.
  • FASTags bought online will be activated only after the same bank-led validation is completed.
  • Routine KYV checks end for cars, jeeps and vans, with KYV now triggered only by specific complaints such as loose or duplicate tags or suspected misuse.
  • The revision does not apply to commercial vehicles such as trucks and multi-axle vehicles.
  • The ministry says the change ends post-activation documentation and places full accountability on banks, with 40 banks currently issuing car FASTags.
