Overview
- Ivan Barnes said on Saturday that parties are in talks to remove the IFP and DA from KwaZulu-Natal’s governing arrangement and bring the MK Party into power.
- A faction led by Jeremiah Mavundla on Monday rejected Barnes’s authority and denied any discussions, warning media and parties not to treat him as speaking for the NFP.
- Barnes cited alleged financial mismanagement and wasteful international trips by Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli as the basis for the NFP’s loss of confidence in the current leadership.
- MK Party secretary-general Dr Bongani Mncwango declined to share details of any negotiations but stated that the MK Party is going to govern the province.
- The NFP holds a single, pivotal seat in the legislature within a GPU of the IFP, DA and ANC, and earlier Sunday World reporting about offers of posts to the ANC and EFF remains unconfirmed.
