NFL Removes Josh Jacobs From Commissioner Exempt List

Clearing him to practice for Oct. 25, the move preserves the league’s right to impose further discipline if disputed police video or other evidence becomes available.

Overview

  • The NFL notified Jacobs that he will be removed from the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Monday, Oct. 19, which makes him eligible to return to practice and to play in Week 7 on Oct. 25.
  • The league’s Personal Conduct Policy review remains open and the NFL says it can still impose a suspension after it reviews all evidence.
  • Jacobs pleaded no contest on Sept. 10 to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property stemming from a May 23 incident in Hobart, Wisconsin, and has paid fines and agreed to court-ordered terms.
  • Both Jacobs and the unnamed woman involved have filed suits seeking to block release of police records and a garage surveillance video that prosecutors say corroborated parts of the victim’s account, and those legal fights may delay or limit NFL access to key evidence.
  • Time spent on the exempt list is expected to count as credit toward any league suspension and players continue to be paid while on the list, creating possible repayment issues if the NFL imposes a retroactive punishment.
