NFL Launches HealthTECH Challenge I to Improve Playing Surface Safety
In partnership with Football Research, Inc. and Duke Biomedical Engineering, the challenge offers up to $100,000 for innovations enhancing the consistency and safety of both natural and synthetic playing surfaces.
- The NFL has announced the HealthTECH Challenge I, a crowd-sourced challenge aimed at improving the safety and consistency of playing surfaces.
- The challenge, in partnership with Football Research, Inc. (FRI) and Duke Biomedical Engineering (Duke BME), invites submissions addressing several elements of natural and synthetic playing surface safety.
- Entrants with ideas that further improve the safety and consistency of playing surfaces will be provided up to $100,000 to work with an expert support team to further develop their concept and create a finished product.
- The challenge is open to submissions from companies and new ventures outside the surface industry, including academic institutions, design houses, and entities specializing in engineering, advanced manufacturing, and material science.
- The submission window for the challenge is open from November 16, 2023, to February 20, 2024, with the final selection and funding period scheduled for May 2024 to May 2025.
