Overview
- League executives told team owners on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026 that the NFL will stop staging any Pro Bowl game or related competitions beginning with the 2026 season.
- The Pro Bowl will remain an honor: 88 players will be named each year with no alternates and those honorees will be invited to a February celebration in Los Angeles.
- The existing voting method will stay in place with fans, players and coaches each accounting for one-third of the vote that determines the 88 Pro Bowl selections.
- NFL officials cited years of format changes, frequent star opt-outs and sharply lower TV ratings as the drivers of the decision after consulting more than a dozen players about the event’s future.
- The league will announce the roster in late December through an expanded presentation and says the move aims to protect contract and legacy value that Pro Bowl selections can carry.
