Overview

  • The new specification extends NFC’s maximum connection range from 0.5 cm to 2 cm to ease device alignment for payments, wearables and access control.
  • It boosts data transfer speed and transaction reliability to reduce failed or repeated taps.
  • Built-in multi-purpose tap functionality enables users to perform multiple actions—such as processing payments, applying discounts and logging loyalty points—with a single tap.
  • Native support for the NFC Digital Product Passport standard allows devices to store and exchange product origin, material and lifecycle information for enhanced sustainability.
  • Technical specifications have been available to Associate, Principal and Sponsor members since June 16, with broader public access and certification opening in autumn 2025.
