NextEra Expands Google Cloud Partnership, Secures More Than 2.5 GW in Meta Clean-Energy Deals

The moves position the utility to serve hyperscalers facing surging AI power needs.

Overview

  • The companies will co-develop multiple gigawatt-scale data center campuses in the U.S., each paired with dedicated generation and capacity, with the first three sites already in development.
  • NextEra and Google Cloud plan an AI operations product for mid-2026 to predict equipment failures, optimize crew scheduling and strengthen grid reliability, with availability targeted in the Google Cloud Marketplace.
  • NextEra executed 11 power purchase agreements and two energy storage agreements with Meta totaling more than 2.5 GW, with 13 projects slated to enter service from 2026 to 2028.
  • The Meta portfolio includes nine solar projects across ERCOT, SPP and MISO and 190 MW of solar plus 168 MW of battery storage in New Mexico.
  • Additional moves include extending 168 MW of supply from Point Beach Nuclear into the 2050s, a reported deal to acquire Symmetry Energy Solutions, and an MOU with Basin Electric to explore 1,450 MW of combined-cycle gas in North Dakota.
