Overview
- Starting with the next payment campaign, the Finance Ministry will revise the tax base for property owners by automatically updating equipment used in the calculation, according to reports confirmed by Libération and Le Parisien.
- The update targets standard household installations such as water and electricity access, a bathtub or shower and WC, and heating or air conditioning, which add fictitious square metres to the taxable surface.
- Government estimates point to 7.4 million dwellings being revalued, with an average increase of about €63 for affected households and a reach of roughly 25% of houses and 15% of apartments.
- The impact will vary by region, with more than 60% of dwellings revalued in Haute-Corse, 45% in Corse-du-Sud, 42% in Aude, about 25% in Paris, and closer to 10% in Indre-et-Loire and Isère.
- The Ministry of Public Accounts says owners can contest their bills if listed installations are not actually present, and obtain corresponding abatements, while a broader value-based reform is under consideration if the 2026 budget is adopted.
