Overview

  • The Menendez brothers were resentenced in May to 50 years to life, making them eligible for parole.
  • Their suitability hearings are scheduled for Aug. 21 and 22 before the California State Parole Board.
  • Gov. Newsom will receive the board’s recommendation and must issue his final decision by Labor Day.
  • Newsom has intentionally avoided watching “ters: The Lyle and ErikErik Menendez Story” so his review remains based on official records.
  • Celebrity advocates like Kim Kardashian and showrunner Ryan Murphy have publicly endorsed the brothers’ release, citing their youth at the time of the murders, positive prison conduct and abuse claims.
