Overview
- Gov. Gavin Newsom will travel to Belém next week for COP30, which runs Nov. 10–21 near the Amazon River delta.
- California’s delegation includes Wade Crowfoot, Karen Ross, Alice Reynolds, Lauren Sanchez, and Christina Snider-Ashtari, according to the governor’s office.
- Before the summit, Newsom will speak with business leaders in São Paulo in a fireside chat with Milken Institute CEO Rich Ditizio.
- Newsom was named a co-chair of the COP30 Local Leaders Forum in Rio de Janeiro but will forgo that forum to attend the main sessions in Belém and plans a brief visit with Indigenous communities in the Amazon.
- The trip comes as reports indicate the U.S. will not send a high-level federal delegation and as a UN analysis finds most countries failed to submit updated emissions targets ahead of COP30.
