Newly Discovered Dr. Seuss Book ‘Sing the 50 United States!’ Set for June 2026 Release

The archival find from UC San Diego becomes an educational tie-in to the semiquincentennial with new art.

Overview

  • Random House Children’s Books will publish the title on June 2, 2026, with a first printing of 500,000 copies.
  • A complete manuscript, cover sketch, and art-direction notes were discovered earlier this year at UC San Diego’s Geisel Library.
  • The book features the Cat in the Hat with two Little Cats in a sing-along designed to help readers learn all 50 state names.
  • Illustrator Tom Brannon completed new artwork in Seuss’s style, and the edition includes a U.S. map under the dust jacket plus excerpts and sketches from Geisel’s materials.
  • Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House are partnering with First Book for a nationwide backpack build, with a back-to-school celebration planned in Washington, D.C., and a companion music video.
