Newcastle Christmas Market Opens Saturday With Expanded Sites, New Attractions and a Set Launch Programme

Officials set out an expanded footprint into Nelson Street with new draws such as a Ferris wheel and Mrs Claus' Bakery.

Overview

  • Opening is confirmed for Saturday, November 15, with stalls and the Christmas Village operating 10am–8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–5pm on Sundays.
  • Nelson Street joins Grey’s Monument, Grainger Street and Old Eldon Square, with the new Mallow and Mulled installation now in place and seating with a fire pit due by the weekend.
  • Easington Colliery Brass Band performs at 9:50am at the Monument, followed by a 10am ribbon-cutting by council leader Coun Karen Kilgour and carols from Newcastle Cathedral Choir.
  • Old Eldon Square adds a 15-metre Ferris wheel and Mrs Claus’ Bakery alongside the Family Village, while the Moosenwirt alpine bar runs daily 10am–11pm until January 1.
  • Coverage lists two different market end dates (December 23 and December 25), so visitors should check the organiser’s final schedule; separate suburb events include Byker’s Winter Fair on December 13.
