Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner shared a 70-run partnership for the seventh wicket, helping New Zealand recover from 69-6.
Phillips, who was playing only his third Test, made an unbeaten 40 in the second innings and 87 in the first innings.
Ajaz Patel took 6-57, leading the New Zealand bowling attack.
The two sides will now travel to New Zealand to start a one-day international series on 16 December.
