New York Woman Indicted in Scheme to Smuggle Migrants From Canada for Profit

The DOJ is pursuing the case under Joint Task Force Alpha as part of Operation Take Back America.

Overview

  • Stacey Taylor, 42, of Plattsburgh, was arraigned this week after a federal grand jury in Albany returned an indictment on Oct. 2.
  • Border Patrol agents stopped her vehicle near Churubusco, New York, on Jan. 20 and found four men who had just crossed from Canada, including three Indian nationals and one Canadian.
  • Investigators say cellphone messages indicated additional smuggling ventures, with Taylor later stopped in August and implicated again in September 2025.
  • The indictment charges conspiracy and four counts of alien smuggling for profit, three designated as second or subsequent offenses carrying mandatory minimum prison terms of five years per count if convicted.
  • HSI Rouse’s Point and U.S. Border Patrol’s Champlain Station are investigating, and DOJ prosecutors from HRSP and the Northern District of New York are handling the case.
