New York Woman Indicted in Alleged Scheme to Smuggle Migrants From Canada

Prosecutors say the case proceeds under a DOJ task force targeting transnational smuggling networks.

Overview

  • Stacey Taylor, 42, of Plattsburgh, was arraigned Monday after a federal grand jury in Albany returned an indictment on Oct. 2.
  • She is charged with conspiracy and four counts of alien smuggling for profit, three as second or subsequent offenses carrying mandatory minimum prison terms if convicted.
  • Border Patrol agents stopped her vehicle near Churubusco, New York, on Jan. 20 and found four men inside, including three Indian nationals and one Canadian national who had crossed illegally.
  • Investigators say her cellphone showed messages about additional smuggling ventures, and authorities link her to suspected activity in August and as recently as September 2025.
  • Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Border Patrol are leading the probe with support from Joint Task Force Alpha under Operation Take Back America, and DOJ named Trial Attorney Chelsea Schinnour and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Stitt as prosecutors.
