New York Times launches a new original game, Pips.

Overview

  • Pips rolls out globally at 12 p.m. ET today on both the NYT Games app and desktop browser, marking the first simultaneous web and mobile launch for a new Times title.
  • Players drag and drop digital dominoes onto a numbered grid to satisfy region-specific rules—equal, not equal, greater than, less than or sum-controlled—across three daily difficulty levels.
  • The game introduces an interactive how-to guide, error revision tools and no time limits to make Pips more tactile and user-friendly than previous NYT Games.
  • Pips puzzles are handcrafted by Times editors, not AI, continuing the publication’s commitment to human-designed challenges.
  • NYT Games will host a themed launch at Brooklyn Heights’ PIPS wine bar from Aug. 28–30 with specialty drinks and free cocktails for puzzle solvers.
