New York State Trooper Shot During Long Island Traffic Stop

Police are searching for a suspect who fled in a black Dodge Charger after shooting a trooper late Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred around 11:45 p.m. on the Southern State Parkway near West Hempstead.
The suspect fled the scene in a black Dodge Charger with a temporary New Jersey license plate.
The wounded trooper, a member of Troop L, is in stable condition at Nassau University Medical Center.
Authorities closed the westbound lanes of the parkway for several hours during the investigation.
Police have not released further details about the incident or the suspect's identity.
