New York Post Launches Hamilton AI in Its Apps

It uses Google Cloud’s Gemini for conversational search, a caching layer to limit per-query AI spend, citation-backed answers from five years of Post reporting, personalized digests and tailored notifications.

Overview

  • The New York Post Media Group rolled out Hamilton in its New York Post and California Post apps on Tuesday as a free, conversational AI layer that lets readers ask questions and get sourced answers from Post journalism.
  • Hamilton is built on Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and is configured to return answers only when they can be grounded in the Post’s reporting, with citation-backed responses drawn from five years of the publisher’s archives.
  • Engineers added a caching layer that stores common AI responses and developed real-time cost-monitoring tools so repeated reader queries do not trigger new paid model calls and so staff can track daily AI spending.
  • Beyond search, Hamilton delivers personalized Post Express digests, tailored story recommendations and timing-aware push notifications designed to reduce unnecessary alerts and increase session depth and retention.
  • The launch follows a 2025 California Post pilot, marks the first phase of a broader rollout that will extend to the Post’s website, and reflects a wider publisher strategy to use first-party AI to deepen reader relationships while managing economics and editorial safety.
