New York Mets to Retire David Wright's No. 5 Jersey in July
The Mets will honor their former captain by retiring his jersey and inducting him into the team Hall of Fame on July 19 during a pre-game ceremony at Citi Field.
- David Wright will become the 11th player in Mets history to have his jersey retired, with his No. 5 set to be honored on July 19, 2025.
- The ceremony will take place before the Mets' home game against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field, nearly 21 years after Wright's MLB debut.
- Wright, a seven-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, played his entire 14-season career with the Mets from 2004 to 2018.
- He holds multiple franchise records, including hits (1,777), doubles (390), and RBIs (970), and served as the team's captain from 2013 until his retirement.
- Wright will join Mets legend Tom Seaver as the only players to have their jersey retired and be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame on the same day.
