New York Launches Month of College Application Fee Waivers Across Nearly 130 Schools

The limited-time waivers target upfront costs to spur applications after pandemic declines.

Overview

  • Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled the third annual College Application Month, offering no‑fee applications at SUNY, CUNY and dozens of private colleges.
  • SUNY will allow students to submit up to five free applications from October 20 through November 3.
  • CUNY will waive fees from October 27 to November 21 for New York City high school students and from November 10 to November 21 for students outside the city.
  • Nearly 130 campuses are participating, including Adelphi, Colgate, Fordham, Hofstra and Pace, while some major privates such as NYU and Columbia are not on the list.
  • Fee waivers do not cover tuition, and state agencies note that FAFSA, New York’s TAP and the STEM Incentive Program are open for 2026–2027, with HESC coordinating the effort.
