Overview
- NY DMV’s Traffic Violations Bureau now lets NYC drivers resolve non‑criminal tickets online by pleading guilty and paying or pleading not guilty and requesting a virtual, in‑person or written SIPOPA hearing.
- Access to TVB cases requires the ticket number plus a DMV ID or a name, date of birth and gender match, and the portal will not accept cases that involve a current or potential suspension.
- Outside New York City, tickets are processed by municipal or county courts through their own portals, and USA.gov provides links to the correct state or local site since there is no federal system.
- New York says it will suspend a resident’s license for ignoring another state’s ticket, except when the ticket is from Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon or Wisconsin.
- Other jurisdictions maintain separate systems—such as California’s county traffic courts, Virginia’s online court payments and points rules, Maryland’s court/MVA portals, Florida’s county clerks and Chicago’s ePlea/ePay and CHIPAY—so drivers should use official .gov sites, meet deadlines and keep confirmations.
