New Year’s Eve Weather Warnings: Level 4 Storm Alert for Eastern Cape as Fire Danger Rises in the West

Overview

  • The South African Weather Service issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms over the OR Tambo and Amathole districts, with heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail and flooding possible.
  • Yellow Level 2 severe thunderstorm alerts cover Gauteng, parts of Limpopo, the Mpumalanga escarpment and Highveld, the southern North West, parts of the Free State and the eastern half of the Eastern Cape.
