New Year’s Eve Travel in London: Reduced Schedules, Diversions and Station Closures Announced

Road closures for the fireworks reshape public transport until about 6am on New Year’s Day.

Overview

  • TfL will run services overnight on reduced Saturday timetables, with many buses diverted, curtailed or split, including Route 1 from 1:30pm and Route 12 ending at Lambeth North from 1pm then Elephant & Castle from 4pm.
  • Several central stations will be restricted, with closures such as Charing Cross from 6pm, Westminster from 9:30pm and Leicester Square exit-only from 8pm then closed from 11:30pm.
  • Selected lines face limitations, including no service from Kensington Olympia and between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge, while the Elizabeth line runs all night on a reduced schedule with no access from Liverpool Street National Rail platforms.
  • DLR operates all night with trains every 15 minutes from 12:30am, trams run every 30 minutes between Wimbledon and New Addington/Beckenham, the cable car runs 9am–7pm and Woolwich Ferry sails every 30 minutes.
  • National Rail uses adjusted timetables with some early finishes, cancellations and extra late departures from central hubs, normal fares apply throughout the night and services are expected to broadly return to normal by about 6am.
