- Federal and state offices, courts and USPS are closed with no regular mail delivery on Jan. 1, and normal postal operations resume Jan. 2.
- Most bank branches are closed in observance of the holiday, though ATMs and online and mobile banking remain available.
- U.S. stock exchanges and the bond market are closed on Jan. 1 after early closes on Dec. 31 (stocks 1 p.m. ET, bonds 2 p.m. ET), with trading set to resume Jan. 2.
- Major retailers and many grocers are open, often with reduced hours, including Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Whole Foods and Kroger family stores, while CVS and Walgreens are open with pharmacy hours varying by location.
- Costco, Sam’s Club, Trader Joe’s and Aldi are closed, most Lidl stores are closed except New York locations operating roughly 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and UPS and FedEx suspend standard pickup and delivery with only critical services available.
