New women's hockey league PWHL announces 6 inaugural franchises in major North American markets

The PWHL will launch with 6 teams: 3 in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa) and 3 in the US (Boston, NYC area, Minnesota).
The league plans a 10-day free agency signing period from September 1, followed by a 15-round draft on September 18.
The inaugural 24-game regular season will start in January 2024, with plans to expand to 32 games.
PWHL aims for stability by targeting large population centers with ownership backing from Mark Walter and support from Billie Jean King.
