Overview
- The U.S. Mint began releasing the series on Jan. 5, starting with the Mayflower Compact quarter, with remaining coins slated to be available before the 250th anniversary.
- The 2026 quarters depict the Mayflower Compact, the Revolutionary War with George Washington and Valley Forge, the Declaration of Independence with Thomas Jefferson, the U.S. Constitution with James Madison, and the Gettysburg Address with Abraham Lincoln.
- Other changes include a dime returning to Lady Liberty for the first time since 1946, a refreshed Jefferson nickel with a 1776 ~ 2026 inscription, a Statue of Liberty half dollar replacing John F. Kennedy, and a commemorative penny marked 1776 ~ 2026 for sale.
- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent approved the final lineup, replacing advisory-committee recommendations that would have honored Frederick Douglass, Ruby Bridges, and the 19th Amendment, drawing objections from committee members.
- The Mint has publicly floated a $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump; federal law bars living persons on U.S. currency and nine Democratic senators urged Treasury to reject the idea.
