Overview

  • The second edition of the North Eastern Region District SDG Index assesses 121 of 131 districts across eight states on 15 SDGs with 84 indicators.
  • Mizoram’s Hnahthial topped the rankings with a composite score of 81.43, while Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding ranked lowest at 58.71.
  • National flagship schemes such as the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission drove broad improvements in water, sanitation and health metrics linked to NFHS indicators.
  • No district achieved an “Achiever” score and intra-state disparities persist, with Nagaland showing the widest 15.07-point range between its top and bottom districts and Sikkim the narrowest at 5.5 points.
  • Performance under reduced inequalities (SDG 10) declined, with top-tier districts falling from 59 to 43 and bottom-tier rising from 20 to 33, alongside emerging shortfalls in responsible consumption and climate action that signal urgent focus areas.
